TITLE 9!!

Title nine was a very important part of sports history. Without it today women would not really have any rights in the sports world. It said that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any programs or activity receiving federal financial assistance.—From the preamble to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972".  Without this today there wouldnt be half of the women sporting events that you see today. Seeing Danicka Patrick racing in a men event would not be possible today. There wouldnt be a womens tennis legue. Basically nothing women would not be allowed to participate in any extra cirricular activities. I choose to do this because first off my beloved teacher Ms. Harms gave me a hard time. Also because its an important part of history that i just learned about it. I didnt even know about it until today.

The Players go on Strike in Baseball

The last know strike to baseball was in 1994-95 the reason why they went on a 232 day strike was because of salary budgets. The league was trying to keep all the teams in the mlb. There was a risk that the low income team or the smaller teams would not be able to keep going because of business. The players didn't like this because the mlb agreed on a marketing agreement where all the teams would share the marketing profit. The players believed that they where pushed into doing it. The players where given no consent on what they would want to do. This led to the strike and this was the only year ever since beginning of baseball that there was no championship or world series.

Tragic Olympic Happenings

During the time of the Olympics we all expect a peaceful meeting of every nation in the world that can compete. You do not expect something bad to happen or something to go wrong just because of the significance of the event. Well things have happened in the past and that's for sure. I personally wasn't alive to witness this and my dad was barely born. There was a terrorist attack on the whole Israeli team in 1972.

It was five Arab terrorists. They climbed the border of the German walls surrounding the Olympic cities. They showed up to the hotel room where they knocked on the door of the Israeli wrestling coach. When the coach opened and answered the door he immediately knew something was wrong. accompanied by the weight lifting coach they tried to hold the door shut so that the team could get through but they where killed. The team was held hostage. The terrorist requested that they had the Arab prisoners in Israeli custody released and two Arab leaders held in Germany also released. They of course wanted a safe trip out tow with no harm but that wasn't going to happen German forces had sharpshooters who where commanded to take out the terrorists without harming the hostages. The plan didn't go as they wanted to and it ended in a bloodbath.

The Astrodome

The astrodome was one of the first arenas with a roof over it. The field only cost thirty million dollars to build it. Very cheap right. Now a days you have stadiums like Yankee Stadium that cost approximately 1 billion dollars. The astrodome started off with regular grass in it and after the first series with the Yankees the grass died so they then had to put in plastic grass. This was known as AstroTurf.

There are a whole lot of crazy myths and facts that come into play with the astrodome. Engineers claimed they could make it snow inside the astrodome because of the capacity of the air conditioning system. Visiting teams believed that the astros used a system called roofing to make the home team long ball go further and the away team not.

Football

Football is a sport that is believed to have been around since ancient Greek times. The name the Greeks used was harpaston. At this time though it was alot rougher than the game that we know today and even that is rough itself. In ancient times they had no limit on the amount of players no specific field distances and pretty much anything goes. The Modernized football was believed to start in the twelfth century but it became too popular that the kings of that time banned it because they thought it was taking away from traditional sports of England like archery and fencing.

Today football is one of the most watched events in America and is making its way all around the world. The super bowl is the most watched event of the year. Now a days there is padding for pretty much every part of your body in order to keep it protected. I think its necessary because the players are getting stronger faster and a lot tougher. This leaves us more susceptible to injury. The rules have defiantly changed there is a rule in order to protect every player on the field and make sure no one cheats and has a fair chance. To get all the complete

I choose this topic because football is a major sport  in america and it has been aroung longer than i actually thought is was which i think is very crazy.

Baseball

There are major rule changes, legue saving events and many problems that where resolved over the period after 1945.  The first one was that the players where not allowed to leave any helmets or equipment on the field, also it is disrespectful to take off your glove before you get off the field. There are always constantly more and more rules to help out the batters because of the disadvantage that all the batters have. An anti spitball rule was written because the moistened pitch cause major delama because of its odd break. probably one of the most controversial rules was the pitchers mound being dropped 5 inches because of how nasty all of the pitches where and it was hard to see the ball coming from such a high angle making it almost impossible to hit.

Some key events in baseball saved the sport really and brought in more viewers like myself. there is always a period of time where there are no major super stars so no one can really go and watch anyone play cause therer is really no one to go and see. Players like Nolan Ryan, Reggie Jackson, Dennis Eckersley, Bo Jackson, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Randy Johnson all finally brought some publicity to the legue after going into a drought. The one that has to stand out the most is the homerun race between Big Mac ( Mark McGwire) and Sammy Sosa. The two battled to the end of the year and they both achieved in breaking a major legue record that they thought would never be broken. Sammy did it first reaching 66 home runs with only two weeks left in the season. Then big mac who was stuck on sixty two finally got on a hot streak and made it to 70 home runs a really big accomplishment. It saved the game of baseball.

I Choose this topic because baseball is a huge part of my life and without it i dont know what i would be doing. All of this information is off of my basic knowledge off the top of my head because of all the baseball history i know.
